Harvey

By Mary Chase

Elwood P. Dowd and his pal Harvey are creating quite a stir at his sister Veta’s weekly tea party as he introduces them to his friend Harvey, a six and a half foot tall Pooka. Veta and her daughter Myrtle Mae decide that Elwood needs to spend some time in a sanitarium, but that is easier said than done. Harvey is not all that he appears. This classic tale from 1944 has never been performed in our theatre and we couldn’t be happier to have Harvey in our building.

The stage is set for the concert of the century – as long as producer Henry Saunders can keep mercurial Italian opera superstar Tito Merelli and his hot-blooded wife, Maria, from causing runaway chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, and slamming doors.

As his ex-wife liz says, he is an eminent man advancing into middle age, with every sign of reluctance. But, unexpected guests and surprise confessions reveal that he is not the only person that cannot say no. A delicious, drawing room comedy by the master of twentieth century wit.

So this happened on Sunday afternoon. Whilst testing the water main pressure outside, the pipe burst (Twice, on the same day), whilst the panto cast was rehearsing in the lobby. And then again! Whilst the cast of 'Harvey' was doing a photo shoot. Thankfully nobody got hurt, and we would like to stress that very much. As we always say in show business, the show must go on! And to know how our theatre family community is tackling this, makes us very proud. ... See MoreSee Less
